Mergers and Acquisitions in India

Mergers and acquisitions means combination of two entities. While the terms are often tossed together, there is a slight difference in their meaning. Mergers refer to two entities coming together and acquisitions mean one entity totally taking over operations of the other.

India has been encouraging M &A activities through various initiatives, "Make in India" to name one of them. India is the place where major action is taking place. From the public sector bank mergers to zomato merging with uber eats, from Accenture with Droga5 to OYO rooms with Europe'S Leisure Group, India has witnessed them in recent times. Thus, government's efforts to strengthen the economy and improve India's global ranking have contributed to the betterment of M & A activities in India leading to 12713 M & A deals in India in a period of 12 months ending Sept 30, 2019. Further with time-lined and eased procedures in merger laws in the country will not only strengthen Indian economy but also make it a hub for foreign cross border mergers.
